Three for Summer

Here in the UK we don't exactly get the most reliable summer. Unfortunately there is just no predicting how hot or cold the weather is going to be or if you live in Scotland like I do how many days that its actually going to be dry. However, with the weather set to change during August and finally give us some of that sunshine we have been craving I thought I'd mention a couple of things I've been obsessed with on the very few hot summer days we have actually had...

First up is my very favourite suncream! This Garnier Ambre Solaire Golden Protect in SPF 10 is absolutely perfect for carrying around on days out to the park or beach on a hot summers day. I go very dark in the sun so normally I would use a tanning oil (with a high SPF of course) if I am sitting sunbathing however this is light weight and sinks into the skin easily which makes it more practical for days out and even walking around the city. I've actually even used this on my face and unlike most other suncreams it didn't break me out! It also has added ingredients such as monoi oil to help you tan and although I'm skeptical about those sort of products this has GLITTER in it and smells absolutely incredible. Well done Garnier well done!

I've also been using my Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist on hot days and its been a complete god send. This stuff is so light and moisturizing on the skin with ingredients such as rosewater helping to refresh and tone the skin whilst also keeping you cool in the heat. This is suitable for even the most sensitive of sensitive skins and once again it smells amazing. I love this as it can be used as a moisturizer, toner, spritz or a setting spray for your make up so it is very much a multi use product...and everyone knows how useful those are! The Body Shop Vitamin E range has always been one of my favourites as it knows how to treat the skin whilst still being incredibly gentle and I never get break outs from it, so for anyone looking to try some new skin care I would definitely recommend!

Lastly, is a fairly new addition to my collection but also one of my biggest obsessions right now. The Rimmel  Radiance BB Cream is absolutely perfect for those of you who like me have always wanted to try a BB cream but feel as though you need that little bit more coverage. It's a bit like the Wake Me Up Foundation with a bit lighter coverage and of course being a BB cream this is also completely weightless on the skin. It also moisturizes and brightens tired or dull skin and it leaves me with such a gorgeous glow! This is probably more suited to dry skin as I do have to powder a little, but I don't mind as it looks so nice on. It also comes with a very handy SPF of 20 making it the perfect holiday base!

What are your favourite products during the summer? I'd love to know in the comments below?

How To Be A Vegetarian

I'm back with a slightly unusual post today which is partly due to the number of people who have asked me over twitter about vegetarianism and partly because its something I genuinely wanted to talk about. I actually know a couple of people who have thought about cutting meat from their diet but don't really know where to start. I went vegetarian around march this year and was a vegetarian for part of my teens too, and although it is hard to make the transition I definitely don't regret the decision nor do I 'miss eating meat'. I personally am not trying to turn people away from eating meat I just thought this would be helpful to those out there who are thinking about making the transition and would like to know how to do so in the healthiest way possible. Please note also that I am a vegetarian NOT a vegan and I still eat dairy products...

The reasons that I went vegetarian might be slightly different to some people's but I wanted to improve my health and add more natural goodness to my diet. By going vegetarian I eat about 6x as much fruit and vegetables as I did and barely snack on chocolate or crisps like I used to when I ate meat. I also seem to be able to tone up and lose weight more quickly when I'm working out as a result of eating more healthy fats from things like avocados and coconut oil! If you want to feel, and look good then I would say cutting meat from your diet could be a good place to start although you might not necessarily need to cut it out entirely. Since making the transition I feel more energized, and my hair and skin is in much better condition too from all the greens I've been eating! And yes it is true that there are unhealthy veggies out there living on a diet of fries and coke but research actually proves that the majority of vegetarians are much healthier than the average meat eater. Also, don't let people tell you that veggies don't get enough protein because actually evidence says that most people living on the western diet consume far too much protein and there are so many plant based types of protein that are so much healthier than eating meat!

Know your reasons for going vegetarian

If you don't have a good and solid reason to go vegetarian then you aren't going to stick to it. You need to know exactly why it is you want to change your diet whether its for economic, ethical, or health reasons. There literally are so so many reasons why people are and do become vegetarian, but only YOU know why you want to live this way too.

Make the transition slowly

If you are someone who eats meat almost daily then you aren't going to suddenly become vegan overnight...start with one type of meat and gradually cut everything out one by one. Also don't be afraid of things like soya mince and Quorn products; these will probably be your best friends in the beginning when you still aren't quite sure what to eat in place of meat. A lot of people think that being vegan or vegetarian means being really strict with yourself but I think its about minimizing the effects of animal products on our health, economy and of course the ethical implications too so for example sometimes I'll drink cows milk and then other times I'll try and stay away by having almond or rice milk instead.

Do your research

If you watch programs or read literature or blogs on the subject it will help you to understand why so many people choose to live like this and could also potentially help you to decide whether it really is for you or not as well as giving you inspiration for your vegetarian journey. One documentary in particular that really helped me was Vegucated which is still available on Netflix and really is such an interesting watch; I would recommend watching it even if you have no interest at all in being a vegetarian.

Learn to cook a few vegetarian dishes

If you don't know how to cook at least a couple of great tasting meals then this is never going to be a viable option for you. Get yourself a good cookbook, learn a few easy recipes and take everything else from there. One of the best things about becoming a vegetarian for me was that it has completely changed my cooking habits and I can cook delicious meals so quickly now, and its no where near as expensive or time consuming as everyone makes out! A little brown rice with some bean chilli costs barely anything and takes just half an hour to cook.

Find your local vegetarian restaurants

As someone who loves to eat out this was a complete necessity for me! Although most restaurant's will now include both vegetarian and vegan options on the menu they often aren't all that exciting so my advice is to go to a strictly vegetarian restaurant. I'm lucky that there are so many good, award winning places to eat amazing vegetarian food here in Glasgow and I always find that even meat eaters who accompany me cannot believe how amazing the food is.

Don't get me wrong I definitely don't think this type of diet is for everyone but if you are thinking about it then I'd definitely say go for it or at least give it a chance! There are so many amazing health benefits associated with being vegetarian and I have also saved money on my weekly groceries as meat can be so expensive! I'm honestly so happy that I ever did this and I genuinely can't see myself eating meat again for a very long time if ever.

I would love to know what your thoughts on vegetarianism is in the comments! Whether you have done this yourself or are thinking of making the transition please let me know all about it!

The Beauty Kitchen Inspire Me Body Polish*

During the summer there is nothing worse than dry flaky skin, espicially when the weather is good and you feel like flashing a bit of flesh. When things are sunny and I want to either get a natural tan or apply some fake tan; which lets face it is probably more likely here in Scotland where we don't see all that much sun; I find it will look so much better if I prepare and exfoliate my skin. I'm always looking for something that gives the skin a nice healthy sheen and really goes to town on those dry areas like the hands, feet, elbows and the backs of the knees. So, when I recently received this Inspire Me Brightening & Toning Body Polish I couldn't wait to have a good scrub...

When I first received the sample I couldn't get over how good quality the product seemed in terms of both packaging and ingredients. It comes in a sturdy little glass jar, which is pretty standard for most natural products and I ALWAYS recycle these type of jars once I've used the product inside so thats a bit of a bonus for me too! I was also super happy to see that the brand Beauty Kitchen was born and bred right here in Glasgow which obviously got me excited straight away! I was then even more buzzed when I saw some of the products on This Morning! In terms of product this is my kind of body product with 100% natural ingredients, and absolutely no nasties and zero parabens or artificial scents. I always have found natural products to be more luxurious and pampering but then again that could just be me!

As far as the product goes I was a bit put off by the scent, which is a bit overpowering, but that's just personal preference as it smells a bit like a mojito cocktail, which is my least favourite on the menu (an unusual opinion I know). Mojito lovers around the world this is the product for you!  The product itself is rather oily to the touch but just like magic the oil leaves absolutely no residue on the skin! This is definitely a scrub for those of you who like to be a bit more thorough as its rough in texture and packed full of antioxidents, minerals and oils such as sage and pink rock salt! I should also add that this is NOT tested on animals so if you are one for cruelty free products then this is safe!

I thought it was rather odd that this could be used on both wet and dry skin although now I must admit I kind of like that about it, but I should add that it WILL make a mess used anywhere outside of the shower cubicle. Overall, I was really impressed with how this performed as a body exfoliante (is that a word?!) and it definitely sorted out those dry patches and left my skin looking lovely and healthy, but as yet I haven't noticed any difference on my stretch marks or cellulite.  That said, I have only been using this for around 2 weeks so its quite possible that it may take a while to see an improvement. This is reasonably priced at £14.99 so I might be tempted to purchase it once this one is all gone, however, I'm very intrigued by some of the other products on the website so may have to give them a go first!

What exfoliator do you guys love to use on your body? Do you like natural products?

Doing Fake Eyelashes With Esqido Lashes*

Now I wouldn't say that false eye lashes are one of myfavourite beauty products as I normally have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them. Cutting them down to fit my eye and actually getting the little buggers in place is something I find incredibly hard, and theres nothing worse than glueing them in the wrong place to find that they feel heavy and irritating. I'd actually say I'm a bit of an eyelash snob which is why I rarely wear them so I was obviously a little skptical when Esqido Eye Lashes sent me this gorgeous pair to try out for myself...

These Oh So Sweet Lashes* from Esqido Eye Lashes are handcrafted from mink hair and marketed as 'the worlds most comfortable false eyelashes' so of course as you can imagine I was very excited to try them out! They come beautifully much so that I almost didn't want to use them and keep them in their pretty little box forever. I never like to go crazy with my false lashes so I was glad that these ones created a simple fluttery look that opened up my eyes rather than being too heavy for my petite features which I've often found with other products of this kind. I applied using ordinary Eyelure Glue and for the first time ever I actually managed to get them to stick in the right place first time around and that isn't somthing that happens very often for me! Instructions say not to use too much product on them so I just used the teeniest bit of mascara to blend them into my own natural lashes.

Th first thing  I noticed was how light they felt on myeyelid and that they didn't annoy me in the slightest. The website really does mean it when it says that these are comfortable to wear! I actually wore mines for a whole day and night and didn't once get the urge to peel them off! However, I felt like the band was still a little too long for my eye shape and I didn't want to risk cutting them and ruining them so that was obviously a slight dissapointment as they are so nice to wear apart from that. The other thing I will mention is that these are very much high end eye lashes and come in at the $30 mark which converted into pounds is still a lot of money for a pair of eye lashes, but if you are someone who wears them all the time then it could be looked upon as a good investment. It didn't state on the packaging whether they are reuseable or not but after I took them off they stayed in pretty good condition so I will definitely be using them again!

What do you guys think about false eye lashes? Are you a fan or do you find them a nuisance?

*Products in this post were gifted to me by Esqido Lashes, however, all opinions expressed are my own.

Healthy Vegan Nutella Recipe

As you may or may not know I am a complete and utter chocoholic. If I could eat chocolate every day for every meal I probably would I just love the stuff so much. However, I am trying to be a little healthier when it comes to my eating habits these days so I decided to try and make a healthy vegan version of nutella, which is also refined sugar free and gluten free by the way, and it actually turned out pretty tasty! I've been having it on rye bread and dipping my strawberries in it and although it might taste a little different from the real thing its definitely a yummy treat for anyone who wants to be indulgent while still being healthy! Lets see how I made it then shall we...

One mug of hazelnuts
Half a mug of pure maple syrup (make sure this is 100% pure as other versions contain refined sugar)
2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
About a third of a mug of water

1, Preheat the oven. Place the hazelnuts on a baking tray and allow them to roast for about 10-15 minutes.Once roasted allow to cool at room temperature.
2. Place the hazelnuts in a food processer for as long as it takes to form a very fine powder and all the nuts have properly broken down (otherwise the spread will be cruchy).
3. Add in the cacao powder and maple syrup and blend for as long as it takes for the mixture to form a sticky paste and all the ingredients are equally distributed.
4. Once the ingredients are blended together add in the water a little bit at a time until the mixture starts to look like a spread.
5. Pop it into a jar or container of your choice and enjoy!

I couldn't belive how easy it was to make this and how much I enjoyed it. This is so good because it  is perfectly suitable for vegans, celiacs and those avoiding refined sugar in their diet. I think it would also be interesting to try this with different nuts or perhaps just using regular cocoa powder to see how the taste differs. I'm definitely going to be eating this ALOT now that I've seen how quick and easy it is to make.

Are any of you guys chocoholics like me? Would you try a healthy chocolate recipe?

The Perfect Summer Candle

During the winter time there is nothing I love more than coming out of a hot bath avec lots of Lush products to a cosy room filled with heavenly scented candles, but I must admit I'm not much of summer candle burner. I find that heavy or musky scents are a little off putting in the summer time when the weather is warmer and the nights are brighter so I tend to look for something a little more delicate with a fresh scent to revitalize rather than relax...

This sweet Dolly Rocker Candle from Lily Flame is absolutely perfect for the job in my opinion. Not only is the packaging super sweet, girly and eye catching, but the candle inside is equally pretty decorated with pink and red. If I could describe what this actually smells like I would say that its a very fresh and clean smell a bit like talcum powder or if you like the way you actually want your fresh laundry to smell. The candle was a birthday present so I have very little idea as to what the scent is actually supposed to be but theres definitely something floral in there. It's also a lot stronger than I thought it would be to burn as it completely fills my room with such an amazing smell in just 15 minutes; perfect for when I'm getting down to blogging.

On the back Lily Flame claim that this little candle can burn for up to 35 hours and I have to say it is lasting well. I've burned it for a couple hours a day every day this week and its barely made a dent in the wax! It looks so pretty sitting on my dressing table too! I have to say I was initially put off by the fact it comes in a tin as I always think it can cheapen the look of candles but the packaging of this one is so pretty that I can over look that minor issue; and for those who would be bothered I checked it out and it actually comes in a glass tumbler version as well. These candles are just such pretty little gifts for someone who loves candles (who doesn't?!) and would make such a cute addition to any bedroom or home.

What are your favourite scents during the summer time? Do you burn candles all year round?

Victorias Secrets Amber Romance Range

If you live in Scotland as I do then you will be aware that we currently don't have any Victorias Secrets stores here with the exception of the airports *crying emoji*. I absolutely love their beauty products and have always picked up one or two fragrance mists when I've been in store in London so I was extremely lucky when one of my best friends brought me back from her holiday some of the things from the Amber Romance collection for my birthday...

The first thing I received was the Fragrance Mist, which is a good option for those of you who like a subtle, delicate scent rather than an overpowering perfume and contains chamomile and aloe vera for a relaxing effect. This one is absolutely perfect for me as it smells sweet without being sickly and has fruity rather than a floral smell which is good as floral smells can sometimes be too strong for my liking. The packaging of this is absolutely stunning as is that of all the products and I think that you can get these in the UK for around £15 for 250ml of product which is pretty good value for money I'd say. In terms of longevity this obviously doesn't last as long as a perfume but I just carry this around in my bag and top it up throughout the day.

Next, I got the Amber Romance Hydrating Body Lotion which out of the three products I got is probably my favourite. It smells a lot stronger that the other two so its perfect for layering under the fragrance mist to ensure you smell sweet and delicious all day long. It contains a heck of a lot of hydrating ingredients too such as oat and grapeseed extracts, vitamins E and C and aloe vera, all of which are things I normally look for in a body lotion. I loved how light this is as it absorbs into the skin straight away and left my legs with the most beautiful healthy glow. Its definitely a good thing to take on holiday too if you want to replenish dry skin after a hard day of sunbathing, and it doesn't make you feel sticky in humid weather either.

Last but not least is the Deep Softening Body Butter (no link as I can't find this online sorry), which I've probably used the least out of the three but for a very good reason. Due to the fact the weather has been so sticky here I haven't  really wanted to smoother myself in thick lotion before bed time so I've been using the body lotion instead. However, this is an amazing product for the colder weather as it contains shea butter and jojoba oils which are perfect for really sealing the moisture in. For now I've been using it just on my problem dry skin areas such as the back of my knees and elbows and sometimes my feet. Its not unlike the Body Shop Body Butters but its little more absorbent than those which is good, and the smell is divine! I just can't wait till autumn kicks in to start using this properly after a long hot bath.

Do you guys like the Victorias Secret beauty products? Which scents are your favourites?

My Favourite Red Lip From Maybelline

Of all of the things I have millions and trillions of in my beauty stash I can't say I have a great deal of red lipsticks that I actually wear that often. I think a red lip can be perfect for a job interview or glamorous event, or can even work to just add some personality to a really simple outfit. However, red lips can be high maintenence and require up keep and its quite hard to find that perfect shade which is why I've seldom went there until now...

The Maybelline Superstay 14 Hour Lipstick has brought me back on that one though. Its crazy to think I found this little beauty in one of those bargain bins in Boots for about £3 and its turned out to be one of my most worn lip products in recent times. When this says 14 hour wear it 100 percent means it and I actually struggle to get this off after a 9 hour shift in work. The great thing about this is that although it dries matte it doesn't feel particularly drying or chalky on the lips and actually keeps them pretty soft. The colour doesn't bleed and this has the most delicious smell to it almost like watermelon which is unusual for a lipstick to say the least.

Another thing I love about this lipstick is the colour itself (non stop red) although I can't seem to find it anywhere online and am desperately hoping it hasn't been discontinued. Rather than a pinky toned red this one is bright pillarbox red and makes your lips really pop. This suits me so much better than the standard red lip as I'm more quirky than I am chic *sadly* and I like to be a little bit different. I think this is also a great variation on the standard red lip for during the summer times when everthing is that little bit more colourful and the formula of this is so good that I very much doubt even the hot weather will interfere much with the longevity of it.

Overall, this is going down as being one of my most favourite lip products ever and I can't wait to buy some more of these to try out the different colours! These would be perfect for a holiday abroad when you want to have as low maintenaince make up as possible but also something that lasts well under the extremely hot weather conditions!
Do you guys ever wear a red lip? Do you have any particular favourites?

Holiday Outfits: The Floral Playsuit

As far as being petite goes, I've found that some trends just aren't for me whilst others seem as though they were just made for those of us 5"4 and under. One of the things I wear all the time is playsuits as I just thing they suit and flatter a shorter, petite figure so much! Although they aren't always the most comfortable or *ahem* easy to pee in but when they look as pretty as this one I don't mind (much)...

This playsuit is from Topshop and its super comfortable, feminine looking and kept me cool in the warmer European weather. I paired this as usual with my comfiest Topshop sandals, Primark backpack and Urban Outfitters sunglasses for a day trip around the city! I've never owned a backpack before and it was absolutely amazing not having a huge bag hanging off my arm I just need to get some more to go with more outfits now and I'll be set for summer.

What do you guys think of this look?
