Good Things Blemish Control Gel Mask

Way before I even started blogging I always had a rather unhealthy obsession with face masks. All I ever seemed to want to buy when I popped into Boots or Superdrug was whatever face masks were on offer, and I always secretly hoped that when I washed them off my skin I would see some sort of miraculous and instant transformation! Fast forward a few years and I am still buying them relentlessly hoping that I will someday find 'the one'. Sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn't, but either way I don't think I will ever stop buying them.

I picked this one up from T K Maxx a couple of months ago, and until two weeks ago I had pretty much forgotten all about it and left it to fester among my huge face mask collection; which is currently taking up half of my bathroom (oops). I can't remember why I bought this but it aims to prevent breakouts so I can only assume I was feeling a little spotty on that particular day. It calls itself a 3 in 1 mask, but to be honest all the things it claims to do I would expect from a face mask product anyway; I certainly expect an anti blemish product to also be oil clearing, and the salicylic acid is what I assume does the oil clearing job, thus preventing breakouts. It can be a little off putting when brands hype their products up a little too much.

Anyways, the product in itself I'm a little unsure about. I knew that this would not be a gentle or calming product in anyway when I read that it contained salicylic acid but as soon as I put this on it really did sting my face. The longer I left it on for the more red and sore my skin became, and to be honest it was really quite unpleasant. When I rinsed the mask off however, I was left with the most amazingly clean feeling and any spots I was suffering from had been dried out. So you see it does appear to work, but I have to wonder whether this is really doing my skin any harm as its a bit sore and altogether not at all pleasant to use.

Overall, I don't think I would purchase this again as I already own products like this which clean my skin and prevent breakouts without leaving it red and sore. It's a shame as this was my first ever Good Things product and I really wanted to like it, but perhaps it just isn't for me and I think I would still be open to trying other products from the brand.

You can purchase this here

Have any of you tried a product like this? Would you buy something like this?

  2. Shame it wasn't good to used, but Yay that the rend results were good though! Some facemasks can be a little too harsh to use often so maybe this would be good to restrict to just when your breaking out? x

  5. I also have it, but I only use it on some pesky spots, never on whole face - it's be too painful because I have normal/dry skin, so it would probably stripe one layer of my skin ;)

  8. I Love face masks!!!! if you find its too harsh on your whole face I would either try to use it for spot treatments or just the T-zone where you are most oily, try and avoid any dry zones you may have haha..but I've never tried any of the Good Things products, i'm not even sure if I can get them in Canada, i'm sure I can if I looked hard enough though lol

p.s I read your bloggers depression post and really loved and agreed with everything you said. It's hard sometimes this whole blogging life trying to keep it as a loving hobby but also growing it, its a tricky balance to find.

  9. I hate it when products work but hurt your skin. I have sensitive skin so I always have to be wary of breaking out badly to a product x

  10. I've never got into face masks, I use them now and then, but I won't be picking this one up if it hurts, thats never good. You want something to work but still be gentle.

  13. I use a lot of the Good Things products and I couldn't agree more with this post. I rarely use this face mask because of these reasons. Try using the Manuka Honey Good Things collection! It's so nice on your skin as it has oatmeal in it!
